| Do you use Sharebuilder, and if so, how do you like it?
Do you do a periodic or just buy when you want?

| Yeah, I use it, but I have not had the time that I need to really get into buying and trading. So,I have just played around with it. I plan to have some time to devote to it very soon as I have been reading a little bit here and there.

| There's a small company I want to invest in. A lot of the smaller brokers like this didn't trade all the stocks, but I just found it at Sharebuilder, so that might be enough for me.
But not right now!!

| Did I read that right as about $15 commission and a monthly subscription fee? |

| It depends on the plan you get. It's a lot cheaper if you set up automatic investments than if you do real-time trades. It looks like the automatic investments are done every Tuesday.
roybean, you said you don't use it much. I saw something about no inactivity fees. Is it costing you anything? Can you explain a little more?

| I haven't paid any inactive fees and I've had the account for years, just never taken time to be more active. Hell, I've even forgotten about the account, but they keep in touch.

| So, you just pay when you trade, if you set up a scheduled investment and cancel it later, it just sits there and reinvests any dividends and you don't do anything or pay anything?
That sounds like a good deal. In a couple of weeks, when I'm between classes, I'm going to check it out more.

| When you set up automatic investments what are you investing in?
I hope you are not paying weekly commissions and submitting market orders. |

| You invest in a certain stock or stocks to buy weekly or monthly. That way you get the effect of dollar-cost averaging. When you do that you pay the $4 or $2 or $1, depending whether you have a subscription, and you don't submit market orders. It's for people like me who believe in buy and hold for the long term, reinvest dividends, invest regularly and dollar-cost average. Much like your 401(K) plan.
