I remember seeeing this play a long time ago, and didn't like it although the set design was great.

I like going to most musicals and mystery plays.

an Ipod for a newborn???

I know someone who was talking about buying an 18 month old a camera phone and they told me it was so the baby could wave hi in pictures. I love expensive things (it's a problem sometimes), but I thought to myself; "A camera phone for a baby that can't walk or talk yet?"

It's ridiculous, isn't it? People have more money than they know what to do with.

If they really wanted to do something for the child, they'd start a mutual fund account and put in money they'd pay for silly things like that.

They'd have enough to send the child to college, or a good start for the child's retirement.

I thought I gave a very nice gift, (and this now was the THIRD giving of gifts) but I was the cheap gift giver for sure at the baby shower.
I am sick of all the loot everyone gets. I had to go to the bridal shower, which the cheapest gift on the list was just under a hundred bucks, and then the wedding cost me 300 bucks for the gift, but the baby shower well it cost me just under 25 because the item was an antique I found at a good buy.
Now I had not been going to many showers in the past 20 years and things have certainly changed here.
I remember when $50 bucks was about the going cost for a very good present for a wedding. Bridal Showers maybe $max $25 and baby shower, perhaps $25, so because now my friends children and my children friends and relatives are all getting married it is becoming way too much.
AND YES there was an IPOD in the EINSTEIN thingamijig!!!
I never cared much about weddings, and thankfully my Mom did not care one way or another, so I preferred to get some money instead of a wedding as my hubby and I went to a JP and then took off for a year and cruised with our dogs. : )
I know I am weird, but the whole wedding bridal baby thing is such a scam it seems.
I told my children that if they wanted a SMALL wedding on the property that is ALL that I am going to abide by.
They seem fine with it so we shall see.
Neither have gotten married yet or had children that I know of ; )ILMD

My mother used to say that in another life I must have been a king's child or some wealthy billionaire because she didn't know where I got such expensive taste from(she knew; it was from her but she slowed to down with five kids to raise and since I was the youngest how could I know), but this is what I gently tried to express to the former friend. "Why aren't you putting money away for college and getting ready for those teens yrs. when they start asking for a car and such?"

I didn't get an answer.

I would take the child out and stand aside so as to teach the child to shop on his/her own and prepare for when it is time to shop responsibly, but their own cc???

As for the cell phone, I dunno, maybe at 10 or 12 because there are people who prey on kids. I read where one child about a year ago was approached by a man and the kid snapped his picture and the cops caught the guy(I think they caught the guy), but some of the things I see people do is just too far out there.

BTW...I saw an antique craddle once that was to die for.

My kids did not get a cell phone, nor a vehicle, nor did they have a TV or phone in their room. They did get boats though. ; )
I probably embarrassed them a lot and still do as I ALWAYS have animal fur on me and they hated me sometimes when I would stop at a barn sale or flea market, or when I would not buy them the PLASTIC toy of the moment.
My husband always made them their toys or tree house.
In fact the tree house is still here after 20 years or more, and is WONDERFUL and I go up to it and take a nap . : )
We always took the children with us everywhere and taught them to think for themselves ( I think) and "STUDY NATURE NOT BOOKS" ; )
They are now adults . One living in LaJolla (who comes home EVERY summer and a lot of other times, and is a Stanford Grad PHD the other in NYC and a Columbia Grad with an MA, who comes home a LOT,and knock wood I think they love their parents and are good kids.
Of course all my children are wonderful especially the four footed ones, who I am absolutely devoted to and LOVE SO SO MUCH.

If Baby E doesn't like it, the Elmo TMX is now selling on Amazon for $199...each. Tried to buy one for my granddaughter for Christmas...had to resort to calling my niece in Atlanta who is a store manager for Target. She is getting me one out of the next shipment they get.

They are $200???????????????????

Grandbaby can forget it. I love that baby to death, but he won't be but 7 months old at Christmas - he'll have more fun with the boxes then the toys this year.

It's kinda amusing, but is going to get old real fast. He watched it the first time, and laughed right along with elmo. The box it came in was more interesting to my son.

My dog on the other hand would like to see elmo torn from limb to limb.

I was thinking it would be a neat baby for my dogs.
There is no way however I would pay 200 bucks or even 100 bucks for a human child.
ME BAD I know
If you have the 200 bucks put the money in the bank or blue chip stocks or art, and the kid will have a lot more in 20 years than with ELmo.
