I remember years ago offering a debate case on the subject of execution in one of the years where criminal justice was the national topic...the fundamental argument was that we ought to revert to the firing squad or hanging- then the salvageavle organs can be harvested for transplant. I won most of my rounds that year because very few people could argue against it...most of the material used by the negative teams dealt with how "barbaric" current methods (electrocution, gas chamber and lethal injection) were, to which we would basically get up and thank them for having proven part of our case. Somewhat interestingly, here we are roughly 25 years later still arguing the same stuff...

That said, I still feel that LI is probably the best operational option provided that qualified personnel are used to carry out the procedure. It does, however, render nearly impossible any potential for organ donation (which I still feel is something that ought to be explored given the constant need for donors and even a convicted killer will have a few organs that are useable).
