Not always...and there was a Supreme Court decision on a deadly weapon finding sometime around 1986 or so that said so...the final of three prongs on why the weapon (pistol) was a deadly weapon was something to the effect that it could also be used to beat someone into submission.

I remember picking it as a case to brief for a class precisely because it was all of about three or four pages in length...it has only been in the years since that I have become fond of a more lengthy writing style
