The braintrust in charge with the United States Bowling Congress apparently holds a different view than those of us with common sense though...
In today's mailbox is an entry for a tournament to be held next year...fine, I was expecting it. Hell, I might even make the drive to bowl it since it is a helluva lot shorter drive than Reno would have been. The idiots put the social security number right above the name on the address on the envelope.
And to think that they cannot figure out why people have so little confidence in the ability of the USBC to get a damned thing correct...

| Why do they need the SS# in the first place?
Are there some problems with imposters in the bowling world? |

| sadly, yes there are...some have gotten their sanction cards yanked and then go create an ID to bowl in another Association.
What makes this matter even more egregious is that if the same data as was on the envelope were in a database that was breached by an unauthorized party, the USBC would be REQUIRED to report the breach due to the laws in some states where they have membership. However, there appears to be no such law requiring that notice where they are simply stupid and irresponsible...

| You would think it would fall under GLBA. If you could show they pass the info on to a 3rd party, they would be a CRA by definition, and you could have all sorts of fun with them.
California has a specific law that prohibits this, but I couldn't find anything in Wisconsin statutes, and haven't looked in TX yet. |

They have no need for that information. They can collect the SS# when and if you win a local tourny, or cash over the $600 at nationals. That's what, .01 % of their membership?

They probably also had it from records they acquired when the Tour folded...
I have gotten two very piss-poor apologies this morning...have yet to see anything on their website though.
