| help with computer I really hate to show my ignorance but I am having a loud beeping noise on my computer and the lap top that is routed through it, does this mean anything?
If I have a melt down and lose my stuff, I am screwed.
No, I don't know how to back it up.
Now to show my real ignorance-how do you delete your cookies, I use to know how to do this, but I don't remember. |

| You should have an external hard drive to back up data or at least burn data to CD's. XP,has a restore function built in as long as you have a restore date to go back to which usually comes pre-set from the factory depending on the brand of computer you have.
In IE you can delete cookies, by clicking on tools at the top of the screen, and select internet options, under the general tab you'll see 'temporary internet files' and you should see a button to delete cookies. Are you using XP (OS=operating system)?

No the beeping is not on both at the same time, however, it did beep yesterday at the same time.
It's the type of beep that is loud and deep pitch like a fog horn kindaof. |

| How old is the computer?
To find out what OS you're using, click on my computer...to the left of the screen you should see 'view system information' which should indicate what your OS is.

| Check the power cord to the laptop and make sure the laptop is getting power. Sounds like the battery is low.

| Then you should have a back up (restore) system, but an alternative back up plan wouldn't hurt! Hard drives do die!

| We bought an external hard drive that we use for backups. The backup utility is probably in your operating system.
If you don't have a lot of data you could always copy your data files to a USB drive (also called thumb drive, jump drive, flash drive).

| Hedwig,
I don't know how to remove cookies and you want me to back it up with USB drive. I just learned how to copy and paste last year.
I know how to turn my computer on, how to hit the aol icon and how to search.
That's about it, I keep saying I'm going to take a computer class, but I haven't got there yet and I hate to admit this but I have had a computer for many, many years.
Thanks for the info, my nephew knows this stuff but I can't reach him to find out how to do it. |

| I like Mozy Online Backup: Free. Automatic. Secure. for a simple backup solution. You can backup 2gb of data at no cost.

| If you have internet through your cable, you should be able to use that as your ISP and just launch Internet Explorer. You don't need to go through AOL if you have an ISP (your cable).

| Since I've never used AOL, I'm not sure.
You could always open AOL and open IE, then go to the page on AOL, copy the URL and paste it in the IE browser, then when you go to the page save it as a favorite. But that could be time-consuming.
I bet there's a way to do it.
Maybe download Firefox. I think it imported my IE favorites, maybe it will import AOL favorites.

| IE has an import feature. Not sure about now days, but AOL used to be a version of IE customized to AOL features. |
