It affects it with many companies. Let me explain why. If you have poor credit it shows a couple things, you inability to manage money, and unkept promises. Plus your risk factor goes up, you are likely more desperate and will do things that other people wouldnt. Thats a statistical question.
It goes down to an integrity issue. Now im not saying all people with bad credit are bad people. I do loans for a living and its rare to find people with good credit. Things happen. Now to the other side.
Ive not hired people that had a 750 fico score and took the 510 fico. I liked them better. They werent afraid to talk about their credit and explained everything to me. They were sincere and were doing the best they could. They didnt just go out and get 20 credit cards and buy crap they didnt need. they went out and got 20 credit cards to buy food for their kids. I accept that completely. I would do the same.
Jobs change, life changes, unemployment can happen. You have to live day to day. Credit is only one part of your application. If you think they will have question, insert a letter of explanation. Letting them know you have bad credit and what you are doing to work on it.
That way they wont give you a plan, which I have many times.
Ive had 2 applicants. 1 went bankrupt and kept his house, 1 lost his house, paid his debt. Was late on everything. 2 years later his credit was destroyed. Bankrupt guy had perfect credit 2 years later and his house. Which one would you pick to work for you? Neither are bad, but assuming they were exactly in the same situation. Which one? Explain your situation so they understand.
Thats how most employeers will see it.
