Freecreditreport.com is the first place you can go to obtain your report. You don't have to have any credit cards, outstanding loans etc. You are by law allowed one free credit report, (basic version) issued to you a) annually, or b) if you have applied for credit in some way or another within the past 60 days and have been denied. If you have applied for credit and have been denied then you will have a letter come in the mail. It will have the toll-free number of the credit bureau that gave the applied creditor your report. All you have to do then is call the number and submit your Social Security Number and it will be mailed to you. I suggest though going to Equifax.com. You can purchase a credit report with a debit card for around $11. It's very thorough. I do it every 6 months. It will tell you what your score is, and what factors are preventing you from getting the purchasing power you desire, as well as collections reports, and the address and phone numbers of those agencies, all prior addresses, and past credit history. Good luck to you in your search.
