Advice needed on clearing bad credit

As you can see, I'm trying to foresee every possible situation now that I need to get this judgment issue resolved. Man, the truth is fear paralyzed me b/c I fell so far behind in paying my debt due to my circumstances. Then when I became employed, I still didn't do what I should have done in terms of paying off my debt. I am motivated now and will do my best to get everything right. I have about 4 charge offs and one account in collections. I willl only have the money to settle this judgment. I'm concerned that one, before that can happen my wages may be garnished and I will wake the "others" who will come after me, although I won't have lump sum monies to pay (I'll just be able to make monthly payments). I owe about $22,000 and it's credit card debt. I know someone suggested on these forums to get a hard copy of my credit reports from all three reporting agencies so I can see where I am. Then, I've heard decent reviews about the Credit Bible and to stay away from credit repair services. What is your take on what I've mentioned. TIA

I agree with step one--get your individual hard-copy reports from each bureau.

You don't need the Credit Bible. It will point you to form letters that seldom work. After you get your reports, you can post the information from them (with personal data removed) here and we'll help you. Each account may be treated differently, there is no "one size fits all" as many books proclaim.

There are good credit repair services and bad ones. Before you use one, do a lot of research on them, and check things like the BBB. But before you sign up for something like that, let's see what we can do here. Why pay money to do something you can do yourself?
