A CA (MCM) made an offer of settlement on a 3 year old cell phone charge off. They say the report entry will start reporting "paid in full" and any references to a charge-off will be deleted. I assume they CAN do this, but DO they?

A collection agency shouldn't be reporting as a charge for any reason.

The OC is reporting, not the CA. That is why I am wondering if they really DO what they say. I am guessing now that MCM does not have any influence over what the OC reports and they are being devious (imagine that) in their attempt to get $.

Search for cell phone and SOL. If it is three years, I believe it's SOL. Hannah would know.

SOL is 2 years, there was a thread about that this past summer. Suppose I should ask MCM how they are able to inspire the OC to modify the CR entry.

Federal SOL for telephone charges are two years. There is a thread here with the full rules & regs. Do a search for it as I am on too many pain meds to do so properly.

I just pulled my EX report, and guess who JUST started reporting? Yep, MCM. I looked back through my records, and the only letter I received from them was the "settlement offer" dated November 12 that starts out:
Welcome! We have a great offer for our new customers.
The Miranda is on the back. According to their calendar, the 30-day window is up, but not according to mine. The envelope is not post marked.
Because the 30 days have passed per their calendar, do they still have to remove it (cease collections activity) from EX and others until they verify?

Today I receive a letter from MCM, I ass-u-me it is in response to my DV request. Starts out:
"The purpose of this letter is to request your assistance so that we may reach a quick resolution to your response." Goes on to request supporting docs for a dispute, and says they will have the CRAs show their TL entry as "disputed." They started reporting in December.
I am thinking this is just a stall tactic and does not require any response from me. Consensus?

Thanks, Gib. I was just going to ignore that post. Now how about their letter? Quote:

Hopefully you followed the Texas plan...and not a reliance on federal provisions.
