Help in Dealing with Unifund

Orca11 New Member Join Date: Oct 2007 Posts: 3	I received a letter from an attorney representing Unifund and they are trying to collect an old citibank credit card debt. The letter says that I have 30 days to dispute the validity of this debt or any portion of it. I am really scared and concerned and don't know what to do. How should I respond to the attorney? Unfortunately, I can't really afford to hire an attorney either. Can someone advise me in what I should do. I currently live in NY. I pulled this from my credit report. Balance: $8,742 Date Updated: 04/2008 Past Due: >$6,077< Pay Status: >Charged Off as Bad Debt< Account Type: Revolving Account Responsibility: Individual Account Date Opened: 04/2003 Date Closed: 04/2005 Loan Type: Credit Card Remark: Account closed by credit grantor
