FTC v Camco

Well, it looks like they are finally gone for good. Big Thanks to TXLawyer who pointed out this press release.

http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2006/12/camco.htm It cost them $1 million and the inability to ever do business again.

Never hurts to give Kudos to Picantel one more time. He was a big catalyst to ever bring this company down.

Look at item 45....the complaint alleges Camco pulled hard inquiries to injure consumers.

So maybe they really do this to injure us? (sarcasm)

The complaint is here: http://www.ftc.gov/os/caselist/camco...dcomplaint.pdf

Here are instances where the FTC has sued using article 5 of the FTC ACt:

Boy am I in the wrong business! ANY $300,000 fine would totally wake me up. Looks like in the debt collection business it's just normal ordinary & customery operating costs.

Were you around during Camco's glory days? I don't think there were many that were surprised that $300K didn't even slow their violating selves down.

IMHO, they make every one of the CA's of today look tame.

OK, item 45 says absolutely nothing about inquiries, hard or soft.

The link has cases about all sorts of cases, most of which could not possibly have anything to do with inquiries.

Can you help me out and explain how you made that leap?

Do you have a direct link to Article 5(a)?

I'm with Pale. Spinn, not seeing where you're going, what are we missing?

On another note though the link is great. Somebody should be sending it to Flying and Rottie...

I still say if they are sharing our personal information, we should treat them as a CRA and ask for a copy of our reports.

Section 5(a) of FTC Act is here for anyone interested.

http://www4.law.cornell.edu/uscode/h...5----000-.html

Just an outline of the authority given FTC to stop unfair practices.
