B = Bumpage.

You have to have an account with a 3in1 report service that allows you to pull your credit report daily. Many do not offer this anymore, maybe because of consumer abuse, maybe because of pressure form CRA's.

Evertime you pull your report it is a "soft inquiry". It will be added to the list of promotional inquiries or any other soft inquiry from potential lenders. As you make these inquiries, the database starts to fill. At some point, the list of soft inquires becomes full, and due to the glitch in their database software, space is made by removing or deleting hard inquiries.

The number of inquiries needed to start the bumpage is hard to pin down. My experience has been at least 75 soft inquiries, and sometimes over 100. From what I have seen on my reports, Equifax has made some changes so that soft inquiries will sometimes bump before hard ones, so it is trickier now than in the past.

Drawback: Sometimes the bumpage will casue a tradeline to be removed instead of a hard inquiry, causing a split file. This could be devastating if you lose a good tradeline, and you have negatives on your report. I have never had a split file, and I believe it may not occur as long as you have hard inquiries to bump off, but I can't guruantee that.

Red face

Thank you very much Pale Rider. That was a very nice and informative response you gave me. Actually I do know what *B* is and have explained it many a time myself on other board(s).

I just felt like being cantankerous (sp) and asking that question since I am a newbie here.

Please excuse my being infantile.

eta: And yes, you are right, split files most certainly do occur. As well as being totally locked out (on EQ).

No problem. I did see your other post later, and was wondering why you asked this. Besides, it may answer the question for someone else.

I always wondered why people abbreviated the term, as if it was some top secret project. The CRA's have been aware of it for years, and have made it harder to attain. And, many of the 3 in 1 reports no longer allow daily pulls from the abusive practices of a few. But there are some that still think they can hide in these forums.
