| When you say last fall, do you mean around Sept, Oct of 2006?
I think it depends on when your residency becomes affective in your new state. Most states say things like transferring a major bank account, become employed, get a drivers' license etc. Have you done any of these things?

| Also, are you looking at the hard copies of your reports? Not online versions.

| From everything I've read, FL SOL can be tricky. What kinds of debts are we talking about? Credit cards, medical, secured, etc. sometimes SOL's vary by type of debt as well.
What state did you move from?

| We moved to FL in September of 06 from Michigan, the negative marks on my report are from a couple of credit cards that I wasn't able to pay back in 2002. My last payment on both of them was November, 2002. On my Experian credit report I have 2 collection agencies both reporting them and also it looks like one of the credit card companies is still giving me 30 day lates every month.I get lost on the credit report because both of the collection agencies are listing dates in 2005 for the last payment.
I lived in Michigan from 2002-2006, before that we lived in California where the Credit Cards were opened. I have all 3 reports from the credit people Equifax, Experian and TransUnion.
The only contact I have had with these is a law office about a year ago they called I was never home and they left several messages.
Should I start out by sending validation letters to all of the people listed on my credit report? |

| Have you established residency in FL? ie are you employed, enrolled kids in school, gotten a FL drivers license?
As to your creditors, I'd lay low for awhile. Once you establish residency you can use FL laws to your advantage.
Once you open a bank account and your CR's are pulled by banks, phone company etc, your creditors will know where to find you.

| Yes, I'm employed and I'm also enrolled in the Art Institute of Tampa. We also have a bank account.
Would this be considered establishing residency? This all is so confusing! I really would like to get these accounts taken care of because of housing issues.
Thank you all for your replies |

| Schools usually outline residency requirements pretty well and your state department of motor vehicles website should also be a good source.
Don't worry about being confused right now...just take your time and read!

Thank you all for your replies | There are four requirements to establish legal residency:
1. A valid Florida driver's license
2. Automobile registration
3. Voter registration
4. An affidavit filed with the county Comptroller's Office in the County Courthouse

Thanks again and I will keep reading | The only thing you need to say is "I dispute." Don't get into the habit of copying stuff off the internet.

| Include the line: "I dispute the amount, character and legal status of the debt you allege I owe you, your client or the original creditor."
Post here before you send anything see we can see how it looks.

| They've sent me alot of stuff since the DV
2 offers to reduce the debt, one by 40% that was the first letter, then the second letter was a 50% off offer and then the 3rd large envelope contained a note from a Helene Waters stating that I owed the debt. They also included one page of charges, it looks like a billing statement but none of these charges are mine and the thing that confuses me even more is the dates they have down on this statement! At the time they say these charges occured I had already defaulted! |
