Sprint PCS revived 2 years later

I had an acct with Sprint PCS.....I terminated the service in March 2005.
After they sent me about 3 different bills with different balances.
Nothing I wrote or said or did made a difference, and calls to the call center just got me on hold forever. Or with some other minimum wage monkey on the phone whose only solution to my problem was "do you want to pay with a credit card today?"

Somehow, SPRINT PCS popped up on my credit report today, showing a post date of January 2007 with CCA. (Collection Company of America)

I have been monitoring my report since Dec and there were no January entries for CCA....and I never was contacted directly by CCA either.

Regardless this is a 2 year old bill and they are trying to update the date to make it stay there forever. What a bunch of f'n parasites.

What the hell do I do now?

The Date Opened is not necessarily indicative of when CCA' account is due to fall off of your credit report - it just states when the collection account was opened with them. In order to find out when this thing is going to fall off in 2012, like it should, you need to call the CRA and find out when it is due to come off of your report (because the tricksie CRA's don't like to publish that for the most part and leave the consumer guessing).

One thing I noticed is that they appear to be reporting a credit limit, which they shouldn't be doing.

The acct was CLOSED in MARCH 2005....but they are reporting it as 2007 to keep the account "fresh."

I think I need to write Sprint and all the CA's involved to remind them:

Section 623(a)(5) of the FCRA, which specifies that any entity that reports information to credit bureaus about a delinquent consumer account that has been placed for collection or written off must report the actual month and year the account first became delinquent. In turn, this date is used by the credit bureaus to measure the maximum seven-year reporting period the FCRA mandates. The provision helps ensure that outdated debts debts that are beyond this seven-year reporting period do not appear on a consumers credit report. Violations of this provision of the FCRA are subject to civil penalties of $2,500 per violation.
