| I caught the end of it. It did show a collector, on a recorded line, threaten to kill a lady who was the victim of ID theft.
I still think 90% of America will never care about collector abuse, until it happens to them.
To me the biggest travesty of all is the courts ignorance, or ignoring of, Federal Law and their own rules of civil procedure. That is even less interesting to 99% of America. When a judge holds a collection attorney in contempt of court and throws his stupid ass in jail for three days for passing inadmissible evidence, I will know people are starting to get it.
It is a start though.....hearing a collector tell a debtor to kill himself by jumping in front of a train may of got at least 4 people interested in these matters.

| I saw it, it was not good. They just skimmed the surface. I don't remember the name of the collector they talked to that quit the business after he called a consumer and her sister informed him she died the day before at the NY trade center, he had been harassing her. He felt quilty for what he had been doing and quit the business.
He said that mean gets you more than being nice and he use to train collectors. He said the business violates the laws.
They showed the attorney for the collection industry who said she was proud of the attorneys and business who are in this business. It aids the economy.
She also said only a few people violate the laws, they showed her a transcript of 2 recorded calls the one where they told the person to kill themself if they couldn't pay and the other was a phone call in the middle of the night, the collector threating to go door to door in his apartment complex and tell all of his neighbors he was a deadbeat that didn't pay his bills.
They didn't hit it hard on the fact it was illegal to do this. |

Almost as bad as "we have to report by law". |

| They need to attack the owners. The collectors are generally idiots but the owners are white collar criminals hurting millions of people. They need to do something like the Oreilly factor does when they send that guy to corner judges who just gave a guy a three day sentence for rape.
I live near the owners of one of th biggest JDBs in the country. He lives in a five million dollar house and drives a $150,000 Benz. They take vacations to the most exclusive resorts on earth, all with stolen money. They tell people they are in real estate and never admit what they do. Its weird because they are old and always introduce themselves by first name only. I have never seen that before.
These shows are actually taking advantage of the pinheads collectors and the owners are being let off scott free.
20/20 needs to roll up to the front door of these people, in front of their neighbors, and start screaming at them. I really think they are more likely to get caught up in a pedophilia sting on NBCs dateline. Funny thing is, if people knew the real JDB story, the pedos would be ashamed to be associated with the JDB owners. |

| If any one of us called someone and said we were "going to kill them", we would be arrested for terrorist threats. Why are these people not being charged with a crime? They have it on tape. I have always believed that would be the way to put an end to this foolishness. If they new they would go to jail they would stop this stuff.
My phone number has lots of collectors calling for people I have never heard of. I think I will start answering and recording. Its time to put some of these criminals away. |

I always name the person who wrote to me or called and the company and the CEOs, officers, etc.

They have no idea they are doing anything wrong. They seem happy normal and well adjusted. You would never know if you didnt know that they are some of the worst white collar criminals in America. |

| I didn't see the piece, but the problem is that they tend to hype the few examples of egregious conduct they could get their hands on. I find it interesting that I have never seen or experienced anything like was described as having been covered in the 20/20 piece, and that goes into the days when I did have some bad debt before the FDCPA came into being (back in the 80's).
Most of those that tried to collect on the ID Theft related stuff were one-and-dones- one letter and they were gone. Period. I cannot help but to wonder if some of that comes from the fact that I don't try and create stuff to litigate and instead pursue the most expeditious resolution possible...

| I have witnessed some harassment from collectors. There were no death threats, but a friend of mine received some harassing calls on an 18 year old cc debt. They had his wife in tears. He immediately called them back and cussed them so bad they repeatedly hung up. After about 5 calls, a supervisor called and asked him to never call again, and stated they were dropping the file. It appears they can dish it out, but they can't take it. |

| We should start a call center where debtors pay $20 a month to have people with weird accents call collection agencies 100 times an hour.
XYZ Collections INC: Hello this is XYZ how may I help you?
Babu: My name is Babu.
XYZ: How may I help you Babu?
Babu: Apples are green.
XYZ: I know but how may I help you?
Babu: I just swallowed a fly.
That is how most of my conversations with Citi go...why not turn the tables?
Are debtors governed by the FDCPA? |

Are debtors governed by the FDCPA? | No, but be careful you don't lose your phone service for harassment. |
