How To Block UNKNOWN Calls?

Hello Everyone!

Summer has been great so far, and just really checking in to say hello.

I DO have a question or two,though.

On my home phone I have caller ID, and also anyone that calls me and also has their ID blocked cannot get thru and has to dial *82. I have had to do this when I have made a call to people that have their phones blocked.
When I dial the *82, does it automatically go back to me having my number and service blocked as soon as I hang up?If not what do I press to go back to being blocked?
My other question is I have been getting an UNKNOWN on my machine, and then within 30 seconds the phone rings again and it is UNKNOWN.
How can they get through if I have my phone blocked and will not accept any calls without called ID?Does anyone know if you can BLOCK UNKNOWN CALLS?

There is a service a little different than the one you are describing, I think my local phone company charges 10 bucks per month for it and they block the unknown calls. The service you are describing you can turn on and off from the phone, the one I had the phone company sets up and you cannot turn it off, you must cancell it with phone company if you want it off.

here is an example;

BellSouth Interconnection Services - Products & Services - Resale

With your phone package should be instructions on how to block all calls and just use *82 only for particular calls. I had this feature as well and the only calls that managed to get thru as unknown were calls coming from an unknown region such as international calls. Some telemarketing and solicitation calls from from foreign numbers and your local phone company cannot identify them.

With my service I controlled all features.

I have Verizon, and while I can block all calls that are coming from my calling area /area code it does not allow me to block calls that are not.
On Monday I will call and see if they have something like Qtip suggested. Thanks roybean.
I DO screan calls a lot,not because of creditors but because sometimes I just don't want to be bothered as I am watching a LIFETIME MOVIE! ; )

I heard a sermon once about which the minister talked about the devil's device....THE TELEPHONE!
The preacher didn't lie....just think about it; how much is the phone used for useful communication? 50%? 60%? I'd say somewhere below 10% and especially on a board like this...creditors, collections agencies, solicitation, telemarketing, gossip, slander, defamation, rumors, the list goes on.

I always screen calls and I shall continue.

I'm with you. I feel the telephone is an intrusion. Being brought up in a family that would not be bothered with calls at dinner time or after 7,or ANY type of business calls on a Sunday, way before the invention of caller ID we were not answering the phone and would just unplug it.
When I have the house to myself and the animals I try to be a hermit and love the fact I make the property like a fortress, and do not answer the phone lines except for one that is JUST for an emergency.
Thaknfully that does not ring very often. : )
Like yesterday and today, IF I had answered the phone I would have had company and most likely OVERNIGHT or more, company. No one is going to be home for several days so I can just stay in my PJ's if I feel like it, have cereal for dinner and watch movies, listen to music, read be on here ; )

The problem with the regular call block is that any call that submits information will get trough, even if that information is simply unknown caller. That is why I suggested the other plan, they catch all the anonymous or unknown calls.

I did get the Verizon call blocking and it really HAS STOPPED ABOUT 99% of CALLS!
Now if someone still wants to get thru they have to say their name and then I get a ring that is different than others and I can pick up and the name is recorded to me andn I can either accept or not.
So far ONLY ONE time this has occurred, and I did not accept.
So for me I really think this is A GREAT SERVICE.
Thanks for the info QTIP.
