| I assume it's a service you can hire to record depostions for the court. There is usually a court reporter in the courtroom taking down everything that is said, and I assume they hire themselves out to take depositions and such.
Is that right, roybean?

| Correct.
Since I plan to take a deposition this time around I thought the info might be useful for someone else. I believe the links I posted are for national contacts.

| Court reported just returned my email and she wants to know exactly what I will be using, video, if I am pro se, what kind of case etc. She told me that they provide everything and she just needs a little more information.
BTW....she said 3.95 per page.
I'll post the other rates in a little while. Let me say this again. 'MY HANDS ARE FULL!!!!'

| I have found a couple more services and I think one of them does not ask for outrageous up front prices.

| I worked in an attorney's office, and the court reporter rented their suite from him. I was right across the hall.

| I don't know your state, in Florida in my county, the going rate for a court reporter is 3.75-4.25/per page with a flat hourly rate 40-80/hr.
I recently used a court reporter. I paid 50/hr 3.95/per page they estimated my charges to be 150.00 it was less, they sent me a check in 2 wks for the remainder I think it was 42.00.
I looked in the phone book and called like 10 of them, sometimes you can find one that is sympathic to the pro se and they won't ripe you off.
Definitley call several before you chose one.
From what I am told some states provide while others don't. My county use to require that it had to be a certified court reporter. They don't go by that now since there was a major shake up with poor transcripts being produced by the company that had the only certified reporters. |

| Trust me I am most definitely looking around, but most seem to be about the same rate. However, you how attorneys want to drag things out when you are pro se because they don't worry about having to pay attorney fees (or at least that's what they think until more of us start asking for fees), taking depositions is part of your costs and expenses and you can add it to what they owe you.

| Those of us that have the tenacity and or knowledge to fight for attorney fee's should, it is the only way the system will change.
While I may not have the knowledge I do have the tenacity.
I am not talking about getting paralegal fee's thats ridiculous to me, unless they are willing to pay the 300 hours it took to learn all the statute's etc to file the endless motions just to asert my legal rights on a claim that never should have been allowed in the court system. I want what the other side would get if I was sanctioned, that is only the fair and right thing to do.
oops forgot I talking about the legal system vs pro se. |
