Caller ID and the FDCPA
What decisions/caselaw is this article referring to and more importantly, what does it mean?
"Two courts in 2007 addressed whether meaningful disclosure must be provided through a consumer’s caller ID.
Caller ID essentially allows a consumer to know the telephone number of an incoming call and often the identity of the caller before answering the phone. Despite the rampant use of caller ID, the ability of a debt collector to use caller ID is not adequately defined under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA). Two cases this year discussed the implications of the meaningful disclosure requirement under the FDCPA in relation to caller ID. This article provides an analysis of these cases to offer guidance for collectors employing such technology."
