medical collections

Do medical collections have to send you a "mini-miranda" to say if you dispute this bill you have 30 days to do so. We received a collection notice with the wording "this is an attempt to collect a debt and any information will be used to do so" or words to that effect. There is no wording in there about how to dispute or if you are able to dispute the debt.

Any thoughts,

Ian

Is this a collection, or is it a current bill that has been farmed out to a 3rd party billing service?

I am not sure, I will have to look when I get home.
DW has a few small collections for medical, can I call them to arrange payoff with a trade line deletion. Is this possible, would the collection agency have this power, If so, do they have the authority to do this.

Well, medical providers cannot furnish information directly. Third party collection agencies or debt purchasers can.

A medical provider wouldn't have to provide the disclosure insofar as they're not a debt collector bound by the FDCPA while a collection entity would.

In any event, you can request pay for delete from any entity. Unlikely, however, that they'll agree. You may think about requesting some validation first and/or requesting a re-investigation through the credit reporting agencies if they're reporting it.
