Ruby | In a federal case, Pacer is one of your best friends. Especially since you can look at cases in your specific district.
Do you know about Pacer?

| Ruby, you have to be careful about trying to template too much of the stuff. Use a PACER account and review some of what has been filed in your District. Not only will you get an idea of what is being filed, but you will also get a feel for what the Court will let fly in terms of filings.
Unless things have changed, once you apply for the PACER account, you will receive the userID and password in a few days and they don't bill out until you reach $10 in fees. At eight cents a page, it can take a little while to get there...although you want to keep an eye on it. Generally I see bills from them lately that don't reach much over $150 per quarter. |

So I can look at case that others prepared for example of the best or most proper way to do one? |

| yep, .08 cents per page. Do a search on any well known collection agency and tons of stuff should pop up. You'll need a cc, but I have heard that a debit card works too.

There is a list of "offense" codes...seems to me that the FDPCA stuff was coded under 890, but you would have to look to be certain. Also you can search by party. You would be looking primarily at Civil. Exclude BK or you will be looking at a lot of crap that is nothing more than the matrices involving a lender.
You will be able to review the docket and retrieve most documents. You should receive a prompt that tells you how many pages you are about to view and that confirms you wish to proceed. |

| The other great thing is that they are in PDF format. You can save them to your computer to read later, or to review from.

| Another note - see if your particular district has a website. Alot have their local rules online. You will need to get very familiar with these.

| Guess I need to read the how to use manual first.
Thanks for the code number, Centex, sure it would have cost me some money trying to figure it out.
Do you mean a website on Pacer? |

| yes and no...each District usually has its own website. The general public can view those sites without a PACER login. The PACER login is only needed if you wish to view filings. The Local Rules are generally downloadable and shouldn't cost you anything. |

No, I mean a website independent of Pacer. Many have them with contact numbers (sometimes even a listing for the Pro Se Clerk ), and such. Just google the name of the court you have to file in.

| No - you won't find cases there. You might find some opinions or final rulings...but those won't help you. Don't confuse two items.
Pacer.gov - the place you can look at documents from cases in your district (and others for that matter). Costs are 8 cents per page of documents that you want to look at.
xxx court's website - Place to go to see if there are RCP's particular to THAT court, phone numbers, addresses, etc. If they do not have their local rules online, then I might suggest calling or going by the courthouse to get a copy, before you even begin to file your case.
