Settling w/jdb inside SOL; no suit pending

Hello wise people

Received a letter from a jdb. However, the letter was forwarded from previous address several months from mailing.

I am in a state where SOL is 6 years. This debt is shy 10 months.

The jdb letter was not aggressive, and included a settlement offer of 50%. JDB is listed on CR. County Clerk confirmed zero complaint or summons.

Their letter included a 30-day window for the 50% offer, which is toast - as is the original validation window.

I am interested in settling the debt. Reading these threads is educational, but I'm far from cementing the information. Don't want to step into a pile thinking I know what I'm doing.

Thoughts, comments are appreciated.

The original validation window is 30 days from RECEIPT of the notice. Not 30 days from when mailed.

When you start your DV, qualify it "I just received your letter that was forwarded from a very old address"...

Thanks for responding, jlynn.

I suppose there is no predicting how jdb will respond. Am just trying to game it in my head with an obvious preference toward avoiding a suit. Clearly, I'd need validation before settling - once I DV, it's likely off to the races, unless they unload to another jdb or CA.

I am unemployed, have virtually zero assets, and no cking/savings accounts. However, I can get my hands on settlement money.
