Letter from Debt Collector

Hi All,

I just received a collection letter from an LLC assigned to Citibank. In the letter they state the amount of debt, creditor and said that I need to respond within 30 days to dispute the validity of the debt. They also stated that they will obtain verification (of debt) and mail it to me if requested. The last part of the letter states info. from the Rosenthal Fair Debt Coll and Fair Debt Coll Practices Acts. I assume that this is a typical collections letter.

What I want to know is: 1.) What should the DV letter state? and 2.) What else should I find out about? From what I've been reading I need to check the SOL (for credit cards issued in CA, it's 4 years, right? And that's from the last recored payment?). This is all new to me, so your help would be much appreciated! Thanks.

You should find out your state statute of limitations insofar as Citibank is fairly litigious. However, if it's a marginal debt, you may as well request validation.

My understanding of the Rosenthal Act is that OC's are regarded the same as debt collectors so that may be advantageous as well.
