Dr files fraudulent claims for procedure

My friend went to see the dentist last week to have one of her wisdom teeth pulled. She went to her dentist's office but a dentist other than her normal dentist did the procedure.

After the procedure was completed, my friend was groggy and they billed her $600 even though she expected it to be $300. She asked for an itemized receipt and they conveniently declined to give it to her. Because she was in a lot of pain, she paid the $600 and left.

It turns out that the dentist who did the procedure does not take her insurance even though the office is her normal office and does take her insurance. The dentist's office manager is now lying and claiming they told her this dentist would not accept her insurance and she would have to pay cash. This is a lie. It is not in writing, however.

A few days later, she received an itemized bill for the procedure which was odd considering the procedure was not covered. Upon closer inspection, this scumbag dentist actually billed her for the pulling of four teeth she never had pulled. It was absolute fiction.

The dentist actually billed her for pulling the tooth twice....and three other teeth that were not removed.

Sooooo we have two issues:

1) the dentist implying the procedure would be covered by insurance when he knew it would not be.

2) the dentist billing my friends insurance company for the pulling of four teeth that were not pulled.

What recourse does she have and what agencies are likely to actually do something?

I like OJ Simpson more than DRs.

It's easy enough to prove that only one tooth was pulled.

If insurance was billed, file a complaint with the insurer.

Call the office tell them to refund the other $300 or your friend will have no choice but to file a criminal complaint with your states' insurance commissioner.
