Like lots of other people, I have a Palisades tradeline for about $70 from a purported AT&T Wireless account that I never actually had. The tradeline states the account is "open" and was "first delinquent" in 2003. Palisades has apparently been reporting that I have an open account with AT&T since 2003.
It's quite possible that I got a letter from Palisades in the past and just chucked it. Now, since I did not respond to their written statement, the 30-day validation period is over and it no longer makes sense for me to write a DV letter, right? Or is there something I can do to "re-set" the 30-day period during which they'd be obligated to validate my debt?
Now suppose I write them a letter saying I never received any written correspondence with them and therefore can demand that they validate my debt within 30 days. I know they can't validate it, so will that help my cause?
I think I should just dispute this with the CRA (say it's not mine) as my first step. Does that make sense?
