Oops. Amex's henchmen are after me.

Apparently I didn't update my address wiht them after I moved.

It also didn't help that I lost my job for 8 months, and stopped paying credit cards. I am now employed, and things are all right with all my other credit cards except for Amex. They sent URS after me. I've never been in collections before, so I'm really desperate on how to figure out how to fix this. (No, I don't have the 2300 they want! otherwise I'd pay it!)

Welcome to the site, I moved your thread to a more appropriate forum. Amex can be a pain in the rear as Centex has mentioned on other threads they can be litigious. Hope someone can provide you some sound advice.

Thanks

Call them and inquire about OASIS. You ought to be able to structure it across six months, gets the balance paid off and gets you back in their good graces with a new card...

I thought Oasis was only after you paid things off?

BTW, I now have a recording of their debt collectors refusing to stop calling me after I told them it was inconvenient for me to receive calls. Is that worth anything?

I can provide a sanitized version of the conversation if anyone cares to hear it for laughs.

I've also written them a letter requesting verification of the debt, mostly to make sure they are the group I should be paying.

They've already started calling my mom and dad about the debt, even though they've spoken to me directly. Is this also a violation? They didnt discuss the fact that I owe money, but they have started calling my mom and dad.

Should I get a lawyer at this point and sue 'em yet?

BTW, I DO owe the money, it's about 2300 bux, and I'd have no problem paying it off in about 6-8 months, but this is getting stupid.

Oasis is Amex's repayment program for bad debts. Their CA is likely assigned. Amex can and will validate a debt.

The Oasis program is something you work out with Amex directly - not with the CA.

OASIS *can* be worked out through the third-party, but the specific request needs to be made.

What is your SOL?

Now that you are employed could you make payments if arrangements could be made?
