If you would get all your current open cards below 50% balance to cl, and ideally at around 35% you should be in the mid to upper 6's.

Is the score a FICO score or a score from Experian's site?

NCO is pretty easy to remove. I would DV all the CAs and dispute with the bureaus.

NCO isn't a score. It's one of your accounts--NCO Financial.

Jlynn is saying that if you send debt validation (DV) letters to all of the collection agencies (CAs) and also dispute the accounts through the reporting agencies, you should get at least some of them removed.

The score from the Experian site is what we call a FAKO. The true FICO score only comes from myfico. The FAKO scores can vary quite a bit from your true FICO scores.

I'm not as savvy as some around here, so I'll reserve judgment.

It's not awful but, it isn't good either. You're problem is in three stages.

1) You've got several debt purchasers on your reports. By virtue of how they report, they must be removed b/c they will kill your scores. The dates are going to be to recent and the type is going to report as open. Down the drain go the scores.

You have a few miscellaneous lates and collections. NCO and RJM can be dealt with.

2) Your utilization is poor. Do as Jlynn advises.

3) You don't have much by way of open, revolving history. This is what is used to primarily gauge your overall history. You could consider adding some aged accounts if a score increase is imperative to you. Ask a relative or friend to add you to an old credit card or look for this service through a broker if the former option isn't a viable one.

You may be able to touch a 700 if you remove most of these debt purchasers, lower your balances and add some history.

Hey apex thanks for the easy breakdown.

Jlynn said I should DV with the collection agency's and dispute with the bureaus. How can I get the addresses and info for these purchasers? It's funny I have these things on my reports but the CA's never send me any correspondence in the mail so I don't know how dispute with them.

Can I just dispute with the bureaus? Also I looked at your site and am planning on retaining your services for the aged accounts but I was curious if the effect on the score is permanent or just temporary when you add these aged accounts?

Thanks much to all!

Oh one more thing as far as utilization goes. Is it better to just paid down your cards to zero or just to a really low balance? Which one raises your score more?

The addresses should be on you credit reports, or you can usually google them and find one.

As Jlynn states, it should be on your reports. Make sure you search your secretary of state's office for an actual officer in these companies to send the requests for validation to. Along those lines, yes, I would advise you to contact them directly as well as through the credit reporting agencies.

Just pay down the balances to zero. We've seen no reliable data that supports a balance favorably impacts a score and assuming it did, it would be to marginal to justify the hassle of payment. Do use them periodically though.
