Help! Repo from July 2000 magically appeared on my report May 2008!
Can someone help me out with the best way to dispute this? I had a car repo'd around July of 2000 and never found out there was a balance due until like 5 yrs later. I never made payments on the balance, and it was never reported on my report until last month, after recently paying off another old debt with the same collection agency. It is now being reported as an account opened Nov. 2007! With a past due balance of over $1000! Did they just figure that since I paid the one debt that all of a sudden they can get $ from me on this one?! It irks me because I've been trying to do the right thing and get negatives off my report so I can buy a house and now this shows up out of nowhere almost a decade later! They can't report this as 2007 when the original default was 2000 can they?! IT WAS NEVER REPORTED UNTIL NOW!!!!!! DO I GO TO THE OC THE CA OR THE CRA?! I DON'T WANT TO MAKE THE WRONG MOVE AND HAVE IT STAY ON MY REPORT! HELP!!!!!

Exactly how is it reporting?
Has the CA contacted you?

Thanks for your interest in helping me! To answer your question, No I have not been contacted either by NCO or the original creditor. When I contacted NCO to pay the other old debt they had said that I also owed this from 2000. I told them there must be a mistake because I was not familiar with this debt and to send me something in writing to verify whether this debt is truly mine. I have received nothing from them so was truly surprised to see this appear on my report this month! But even if this is legit could they report the date as 2007 when the default happened in 2000? I was so close to having all my baddies gone, am I screwed?! Below is all the info I have, Transunion is apparently not reporting........Honestlyblonde

On those reports, I don't think "Date Open" means the date you opened the account but the date the CA obtained your account. On my reports I have about 5 accounts with "Date Open" in 2007 but they are scheduled to fall of my report in 2008.

Did you ask them to validate in writing or verbally?
