Where to start? Judgements or CAs?

Hi All,

I have a couple of judgements on my credit:

1. A repo from 2004 - judgement was in 2006
2. An loc in 2003 - judgement in 2004

Other than that, I have various collections and charge offs that should fall off within the next year or so.

My questions:

1. Best way to get the judgements off?
2. If I do get the judgements off, will they still report if someone does a background check (as opposed to credit check)?
3. With the CAs and COs, just because they fall off my credit, can CA still try to collect? And what is my best defense if they do?

Thanks so much!!

No sure-fire way, but if they are associated with an address you no longer live at, you might try getting rid of those addresses first.

I don't know what is involved with a background check, but they are a matter of public record, so it is conceivable they would be found.

Debts are collectible whether they report or not (reporting is voluntary). Defense of collections depends on the method of collection be attempted.

Thanks for the info! As an update, I have decided that I really need to get the judgements removed, if possible. I was just declined at an apartment complex, so have used that to request reports from all three bureaus.

Regarding "getting rid of those addresses first..." What exactly does that mean? They are associated with an old address, so should I simply dispute the address with the CRA, not the judgement? How does disputing the addresses help to get items removed? How do I dispute it - I did live there.

Thanks for all you do!

Getting rid of addresses first? How, then what?

My judgements are both from old addresses, but I'm unclear on what and how to dispute. And how does disputing addresses help to get the judgements deleted? Do I first dispute the addresses with the CRA, then come back and dispute the judgements? Help! I'm obviously confused!

Just dispute as obsolete. Then come back and dispute the judgments. Without the addresses on the reports, there is one less piece of information that can be matched up to verify it with.

Dispute the docket numbers, dates filed, amounts, etc. Things that are in other words inaccurate and/or incomplete.

They can be deleted on occasion.
