The seven year reporting period began the day the check was refused for payment.
I've never heard of them, but if it were me, this is what I would do. YMMV, and this not set in stone.
1. Give it five days. There is case law that says reporting to a CB is a communication as defined in the FDCPA.
2. Dispute then entry with the CRA as "I've never opened an account with xxxxxx on <they date they list in the CR>. Nor do i have an account with account number xxxxx with payments of $xx.xx.
3. When you get the CMRRR back, DV them. Something along the lines of: "On xx/xx/xx I was alerted that you have placed an account on my <name of CB>. That was over # days ago and as of the date of this letter, your office has failed to contact me.
<insert your favorite DV language>
Cordially,
me"
4. If they verify with the CRA, then they MUST verify with you, if not violation.
Do this now as the thirty day clock is ticking.
Then come back with the results.
