Amex account suspensions

Due to the collection that WAS on my reports, they fell off recently for unknown reasons, AMEX requested financial documents which I didn't want to give. I followed someone's advice on here to refuse giving those documents requested.

As a result, both of my credit card accounts are suspended, "charging privilleges have been suspended."

Is this permanent until I provide those documents? Or will they close the accounts eventually?

Would I even be able to mail a letter to AMEX explaining that the collection account was placed on my reports in ERROR and ask that they restore my accounts? Would AMEX be in violation for anything if they refused? I never paid late on the AMEX cards. Both were in good standing.

I'm pissed off royally right now. That's 14,000 dollars taken off my utilization stockpile. Should I pay them off and part ways? I will need to find another credit card that would offer a high limit to help my utilization.

Any ideas?

I think they will eventually close them if you do not reply to the FR request.

Telling them the collection is in error probably won't help any at all. What would they be in violation of? I believe if you read the cardholder agreement that they can suspend charging privileges at any time. I know of no law that says they can't suspend your privleges or close your account.

As far as I know, AMEX has been known to request financial reports just because they feel like it--you've had a change in charging patterns, a big purchase, something. You will not be able to prove that it's because of the charge off (in my opinion).
