Logs show some California inmates may have been conscious during execution
SAN JOSE, California-Medical logs of past state executions showed that some patients might have been conscious during the lethal injection procedure because the sedatives were mixed by prison staffers with no medical background, an anesthesiologist testified.

I remember years ago offering a debate case on the subject of execution in one of the years where criminal justice was the national topic...the fundamental argument was that we ought to revert to the firing squad or hanging- then the salvageavle organs can be harvested for transplant. I won most of my rounds that year because very few people could argue against it...most of the material used by the negative teams dealt with how "barbaric" current methods (electrocution, gas chamber and lethal injection) were, to which we would basically get up and thank them for having proven part of our case. Somewhat interestingly, here we are roughly 25 years later still arguing the same stuff...
That said, I still feel that LI is probably the best operational option provided that qualified personnel are used to carry out the procedure. It does, however, render nearly impossible any potential for organ donation (which I still feel is something that ought to be explored given the constant need for donors and even a convicted killer will have a few organs that are useable).

Wasn't there a movie about organs donated from a killer and the people that got the organs became killer too? I think that altough they deserve what they have comming, they are still people and should be afforded a peacefull death. Truthfully, I do not beleive in our legal system. I do not think that jail rehabilitates, Jail is no more than a punishment. We should be spending money rehabing people so they do not come back.
Jail is no more than a college for criminals, once in there they get better at what they did prior to getting there.

Not really...I see a lot who obviously didn't get any better at it, and in fact, wound up with several more counts of what got them there in the first place...precisely because they weren't very good at it.

You must admit that nothing good can come out of getting criminals together in one place, it is not different than a forum with a especial interest. We go to forums so we can learn everything about the particular interest that everyone else shares in the forum.
Person goes to prison and now they are networking with people with similar interest. Some of them as you mention are not good and need a career change
Others on the other hand, learn and perfect their skills "if you want to call it a skill". This is a broad generalization and maybe I am way off... Who knows...
I think it is worst yet when they go to jail at an early age and get institutionalized. Might as well leave him in jail for life, as every time they are released they come right back because they do not know how to cope with society and feel safer inside, an environment familiar to them. I seen this many times and it is so sad to see.

Centex makes a very good argument because are literally thousands of people on the waiting list for donor organs and when it comes to subjects like this one most people can only argue one side. I think I said this before in another thread, but a political science professor of mine said that you should be able to argue both sides of any argument or else you aren't really versed in the subject matter especially if you are trying to win. You need to know how your opponent will argue and you need to know all of the facts.

The Socratic argument (which most folks don't know) will usually make people mad and they'll stop arguing.

I certainly believe that criminals should be punished. Part of any rehabilitation process should be punishment and accepting the consequences of your actions.
