Identity Theft On Lifeline

Hubby is asleep so I am watching the movie on Lifetime as I type. So far,to me it does not ring true, as this person is using info from another person and ordering all sorts of things on line, such as TV and Jewlery and the items are being shipped to a different address than the real address.
Now I know for a fact that anytime something funny has happened with my credit card such as swiping it too many times the bank that it is issued by calls me on the phone to make sure everything is all right.
Now centex I remember you told us the reason you can to the credit boards was because of identity theft.
What and how did it happen?
I can see using the card at stored and restuarants until the card is reported lost or stolen, but I still do not know how someone stills your identity. I should think the fact you want to change an address or phone number would create a big problem it did with me when I wanted my address change from home to a post office box.

I am still watching tv and now the woman just bought a car. Now this is so not real. When I bought my last car,they asked to see my license, and I also had to give a check for the registry and sales tax.
I sincerely doubt that I would have been able to walk in and get a $40,000 loan with just signing my name on the dotted line .

Did they have any fake documents? A lot of times they can get a fake license, get your name and address and their picture. Then they would appear to be you, and they may know your social and mother's maiden name or something.

Well when she went into buy the car,they did not ask her for anything.
You know anytime I have ever applied for credit and the ask my Mother's maiden name I give a bogus one(my dogs name) so NOONE will ever know the real name.
As for SS# here in Mass we used to HAVE to have our SS on our license, which always bugged me.
I do know it is very easy to find out a lot of things, like if someone gives you a check you can call to see if the check is OK by just giving the account number.
Half way thru the movie and it is not so great.
