On my way to Kroger a little while ago I pulled out onto 13th Street to go up to the highway. Coming at me down 13th Street were two young boys (8 or 9 years old tops) in Kroger shopping carts racing each other down the 45 degree sloping street that leads to the public boat ramp. They were screaming with laughter and I didn't know what to do. Could I back up quicker than those carts could zip down the hill? If I pulled over to the side of the street, would one sideswipe me? I certainly didn't like playing chicken with them so I just stopped the car and watched them coming toward me...

Those kids zipped by me, one on each side!! It was then I noticed that they had boards sticking through the handle and the seat of the carts and were using the board as a brake. They had painted a number on the front plate of each cart. One was #3 and the other #8 which I believe are famous Nascar numbers (??). They looked like they were having so much fun that I didn't even call the cops at the time. Although after I got home I thought about the fact that they weren't wearing helmets and could end up hurt. They weren't on 13th Street when I went to look for them so I'm sure if I report it, the cops will think I am nuts. So there you go....a new extreme sport in the making....Grocery Cart Racing!
