How many eat black eyed peas & greens on New Year's day? Peas are for good luck & greens for money, I could use both myself.

I have no idea if eating those will bring luck or money but I have eaten that my entire life on New Years day so I am not about to stop now and take a risk. Besides, peas & greens and cracklin cornbread are mighty fine eatin any time of the year.

Kielbassi and kraut, have always been a tradition on New Years eve for my family eaten at midnight for good luck, and a pretzel made of sweet dough the next day. I think it's really a Polish tradition, but even though I'm German we have done it as long as I can remember.

You don't necessarily have to cook Black eye peas just have some in the house or at least that's what I've always been told. So during times that I wasn't able to cook or was at someone else's home, I was told to put some in your pockets, around the house, the closets, throw a few in the car etc.

Wanna hear something funny since you mentioned this???

Last year I didn't cook ( I think I wasn't feeling well last year or something), but anyway I put black eye peas in all of m y pockets, even coats and jackets that I wasn't wearing. I recently pulled out one of those jackets and I forgot about the BPs.

I went in Walgreens and reached for some change and out came those black eyed peas. A couple of people looked, but I just dashed out of the store real quick.

I'm not Polish, but that's what we always eat on New Years Day. I just take a tiny bite of the kraut for luck.

My Mom always made pork roast and kraut for New Years with a side of black beans and a huge pan of cornbread. I have broken with tradition and order pepperoni pizza with green peppers and onions usually from Domino's. I figure you make your own luck and I hate kraut...plus who wants to cook on Bowl Day?!

I have a Polish brother in law and he cooks the sausage and kraut and it is yummy. He calls it something...kaboosta I think...I don't know, all I know is that it is good. He orders the sausages from some place up north because he can't get them around here.

I've eaten black-eyed peas on New Year's ever since I lived in the south. That reminds me--I need to get out the crock pot, make sure I have a bag of peas and some pork. If not, I guess I need to get shopping!!

Well, this year it seems I will be starting a new tradition. I have been instructed to take a picture wearing my new Gator Bowl shirt, and hubby must be holding his new strange coffee mug with WVU on it.

My high schooler is deeply concerned that our loyalties are changing and we will be sending her out of state to college.
