Its about time. Can you imagine what might have happened to those Duke students, if they could not have afforded private attorneys?
I believe there are similar for teachers at least willing to work in inner city schools, as well as doctors that will go to remote locations.

I actually think the world would be a better place if they paid people $20,000 a year to NOT go to law school.....doesnt this country already have enough people suing for $54 million because an immigrant dry cleaner lost their PANTS?
Does a young Mike Nifong really need to be incentivated to go to law school?
At the very least these monies should go to people who need it.....not another legally blonde Paris Hilton.

I like the idea, but I somehow doubt a screwed up justice system will be saved by just out of school attorneys.

I'm not and I have a fat smelly beagle. And I wouldn't mind working in the prosecutor's office for 3 years to pay off the close to $100,000 it is going to take me to finish law school and pass the bar.
And to answer PR...who do you think is doing the scut work in most public defender and prosecutor's offices across the country anyhow? It's the just-out-law-school kiddie lawyers.

I understand they are doing the research and a lot of the work that keeps things moving. I just wouldn't want a death penalty case hinging on one of those bright young inexperienced minds.

The military does it with Doctors who go to the Naval Medical Center in Bethesda. I see no problem with that and they actually pay them to go to medical school for free.
The difference is they then must serve their country for twenty years after graduation so many of these doctors have twenty years of experience and can handle the most difficult cases at that point. Why cant lawyers do the same?
A three year commitment is simply not enough. The country does not need more attorneys. Hannah will be one of the good ones but do we really want to give $60,000 to someone who becomes a DA for three years and then a JDB hack making $250,000 to file default judgments? Is that in the public interest?

One of the dwindling freedoms we still have left is our ability to choose whatever vocation we wish. If there are too many lawyers, the workplace market for them will bear this out.
Military obligation for medical school is 7 years active duty.

They don't make that kind of money anymore due to us informed professional debtors.

There is no military schooling that carries a 20-year obligation. I think even the service academies are only 6 years.
