Do you want to make free calls in the US and almost free in other countries?
Try this company http://www.voipbuster.com/ Their service alllows you to make calls from your laptop to any land number. All you have to do is open an account "I started with 10 bucks last November" Once the account is open they will deduct money of your deposit for calls made.
Now that sounds like every other company ou there right? Here is the cool part.
If you call any of this places calls are Free;

But weit there is more, if you go to Stapples and purchase this wireless phone for 50 bucks
http://www.epinions.com/VOIP_ZYXEL_P..._BRV_11B_USB_R
You can configure the settings of your voipbuster and use the regular phone to make calls "no longer need the computer to call".
The Zyxel phone works with 802.11b I think it works with G networks also. So basically you can take the phone with you and connect to any wireless network and place a call!!!!
The only negative thing is that this service is for outgoing call only, they do not offer a return number. However if you ar like me with friends all over the globe, this could be an innespensive way to make calls. By the way my account with the read 0 credits and I am still able to make calls to the free countries without having to re-up!!! Did I mention that the quality of the calls is superb?

Sounds like a good deal for people who make a lot of calls outside the US.
I have a landline with unlimited local and long distance, and I won't give that up. Includes caller ID, call waiting, and three-way calling.

Yes I have same and feel same way, you know however where this set up shines. When I get a call and I do not know if it is a CA or not. I call the 800 number with this phone as they cannot call back

Skype is cool but it confines you to use it trough the computer correct? Te way I explained here, you will not need the computer, you would use the Zyxel phone anywhere in your house "you must have a wireless router".
Skype charges two cents a minutes "cheap" to make calls in the Us and you must use the computer. With this set up calls in the us and the countries listed above are 100 percent free and no computer required
You cannot beat the fact that you can encrypt conversations with skype, that is something that the provider I am using does not offer.

I'm on a dialup with top speed of 28.8K...Skype is about all I can handle and it keeps me in contact with Hubby who is out of the country. He can call from his computer to my landline for about .02 a minute, which is great when my dialup is acting up.
Right now he is making alot of calls overseas, and this is a good cheap way for him to do it.

I like skype and the quality of connection, I did not know they could compress the voice to the point that you can effectivelly use with 28.8k
You mentioned in past you had dialup, I forgot all about it. Two cents beats any calling cards I know off, I used to buy the sams club calling cards "I think they where 4 cents per minute".

LOL - Hubby is never sure when I've been drinking though!
Seriously, we have had to get used to it a bit, as there is a delay in hearing what is being said, but we've got it down pretty good, and it beats the heck out of any other means of contact - price wise that is.
