Hope y'all over in Texas are safe. This is one huge ass storm. We had flooding along the Florida panhandle yesterday and this morning. You guys take care.

My Aunt and her DH are in Texas City, decided to stay. He's a Dr, there house is on stilts. At 2pm they evacuated to the hospital. Water was rising to fast.

north and east...she'll get some wind but the rain will depend on how quickly the storm makes its turn once it gets out of Houston. She may stay on the clean side of the storm (like we are out in Austin). By the time the storm gets her direction, it may not even have tropical storm winds...

No, I have class this morning. Pretty bad in Galveston. Alot of people ignored mandatory evacuation orders and were calling last night to be rescued, when no rescue was available. Its going to be bad.

I just checked HOUSTON, TEXAS NEWS | KHOU.com | News for Houston, Texas - its pretty ugly in Houston. Gas prices already went up here 20 cents a gallon. Watching where Hubby's office is right now - its taking a direct hit. Luckily he is home with us.

As Centex said it depends on how Ike moves. We were targeted yesterday late to be in the direct line of Ike's path. Now whether its still a Cat 1 or will down-grade to a Tropical Storm first, remains to be seen.

Although its not as powerful as some, its a Big Honking Hurricane. It is 600 miles across.

Yeah, hurricanes suck. I'm doing this on a generator. We sat on a neighbor's porch last night watching the pleasant glow of 4160Volt power cables arcing behind my house. We lost 2 windows due to my own stupidity, but that is our main damage. My parents have yard and shingle damage.

Well there isn't a gas station left in town with fuel, and it will be a few days before we are resupplied. I filled up while in Dallas.
We have a couple of friends we can't reach, hoping for the best.

Winds blowing pretty hard here, and lots of rain, but nothing just awful.

As expected, we did not get a drop of rain out of the storm. That makes an entire season of named storms thus far that has resulted in not a drop of rain falling in west Austin that was linked to a particular tropical storm or hurricane.

Oh, and it was blue sky and sunshine by mid-afternoon...it was a little cloudy this morning and we had some gusts of wind. Yeah, I could see the tops of trees actually move a little bit...oh wait, that is sort of normal around here.

Oil companies suck. We have no gas here because of idiots filling up all their vehicles + 10 gas cans at a time. Looks like the freaking 70's all over again. Gas prices rose 45 cents overnight, WTF?!?

I wonder about that.....as bad as Oil Cos are.....isnt this the individual station owners gauging the locals?

If you want....I will buy 100 gallons of unleaded and FedEx it to you in a big squishy bag.

And even at a 45 cent bump...I bet its still cheaper than the $3.70 or so we are still paying after a 40% drop in oil futures.

I just heard from my Aunt. They are fine, house survived with no damage. But the did lose every tree they had and severe yard damage. The live a block from the sea wall in Texas City.

Of course no power but have a NG generator and hot water heater. Neighbors are stopping by for coffee and a hot shower.

Jlynn - tell your DH for me, a HUGE thank you again. When I talked to him yesterday he offered to take a ride down there to find them for me.
