99 Jeep Wrangler 6 cylinder- much more goes wrong with it, and it will be a boat that doesn't float

Anyway, it will start, but won't run unless I keep the RPM's up. I know first thing to check is probably the fuel filter. I'm going to the parts store today to get one. Where the heck is it on the jeep?

My only other two options - have the SOB towed like I did last week when something else went wrong and it left me stranded;

Or bring out the Blue Ox, which is heavy as heck, connect it to the truck, and tow the POS myself - assuming I can keep it running long enough to turn it around in the driveway.

There's only one of me here right now, so towing it with a chain is not an option either.

Do you have an Autozone nearby? They will test it free, and see if there are any error codes stored in the computer. May be something like the idle position sensor, or some other sensor involved in the intake or exhaust system.

Fuel filter is probably under the car near the tank if it is like many current vehicles...I do like the one on the truck- right there on top of the block, and is a big-ass cartridge drop-in (after I drain the bowl of the water separator).

My guess is something other than the fuel filter, unless the '99 was still carbed. For simple things first...check the air filter. Also you might want to check the plug wires. Old plug wires can sometimes mean funky things happening with certain vehicles.

Has the O2 sensor ever been changed? I know when it went bad on one of my vehicles, it made the idle really difficult when it was first started, although it was fine once it had a chance to warm up. Do your problems continue even after the Jeep gets to operating temperature?

Other quick thing to check...look on the Jeep forums. I'm betting you are not the first to have an idle issue with a 4.0 or 4.2l (whichever they used in '99).

K & N, I recently cleaned it, but with all the dust I'll take a look.

They are about 2 yrs old. And it has not been running badly - no sign of problems, driven the day before.

Couple of months ago.

I can't get it running long enough to get to operating temps. Well, I guess I could if it hadn't pissed me off

Yeah, I'll go there, too.

It could be any number of things. In addition to the things already mentioned, it could also be the egr valve.

A few other thoughts, could be water in the lines due to condensation.

If you have an automatic choke could be stuck, so if this is the case, open it up and keep it open with a stick and start and then put pedal to the medal to get in unclogged.

Hope you find your problem and that it is an easy fix.

Sounds like they've covered most of the easy things. I just wondered if the next picture in your siggy was going to be you turning that gun on the jeep.

No, I won't use it for target practice too much equity in it. But if I can get the SOB to run long enough you will find a for sale sign on it.

Hubby stays out of the country too much for me to have to deal with this stuff. This is twice in two weeks that she and I have had issues. Of course it didn't help that my oldest came by to show be her brand new car today.

Nearest part shop that won't rob you blind is - yes you guessed it 45 minutes round trip.

No check engine or service soon light on.

I was able, by restarting it 4 different times, to get it turned around where I can tow it if I have to.

Isn't that the way it always works? Maybe you haven't been paying enough attention to it. It just wants you to show it some attention and some love every day.

Depends. If the 0% financing is for real I've only got until the 5th...no word yet. I pulled hubby's report today, which I haven't done in a LONG time, and some sneaky bastage has a collection on EQ. "Name Not on Record (Individual)" is what it said!

If its OSI again, I sooooo own them.

I'm not selling it for $500

The commercial says credit score does not matter. But, the fine print flashes very quickly with something like "not all buyers will qualify".

Update - picked up jeep Wednesday. Mechanic cleaned out the intake and stuff, started it up a dozen or so times, everything working. I paid him his $30 (shocked that I got out of there that cheap), and waved goodbye. My parting remark was "See ya next week".

Filled it up yesterday, getting ready to roll for the weekend.

7:30 am Load softball bag, ball bucket, cooler, and lawn chair in jeep...check
743 am Loaded grumpy softball player in jeep...check
7:45 am Insert key in ignition...check
7:45 1/2 am Turned ignition...check
7:46 am Dead silence from jeep...check
7:47 am. Loaded softball bag, ball bucket, cooler, and lawn chair in truck...check
7:48 am Loaded VERY GRUMPY softball player in truck...check
7:49 am Kicked tire on jeep and uttered expletives...check
7:50 am Remind VERY GRUMPY softball player not to talk like Mom...check
7:51 am Departure time....

So guess what I get to do tomorrow??????
