I recently turned 18 and i want to get a credit card but i'm not sure which to choose?
I only wanted to get one card because it will be easier to pay off but which is the best to choose from that doesn't have all these charges but helps your credit score....

I started of with American Express many years ago. They have an annual fee but the best thing about that card was you have to pay in full every month so I have to watch my spending. If you miss paying in full you'll get penalized big time and your account will be cancelled in no time. This was a great incentive for me to stay on top of my spendings and it does help build your credit as well.
Getting a credit card that allows you to make minimum payments is bad. Try your hardest but at 18 years old, you will always opt for the minimum payment. Get a card that forces you to pay in full each month and you'll be better off.

Easier to pay off rings alarm bells. A credit card is not used to buy things you can't afford. It is to make it convenient to purchase things you can afford. You should rarely carry a balance on a credit card. It should be paid off every month. I have never carried over a balance and have a credit score over 800.
First of all get a Visa or Mastercard that is free. Low interest rate is secondary since you should be paying it off every month. What many people don't understand is that there is no interest when paid in full. If there is a 1 cent balance then interest is computed on the balance BEFORE the payment is applied.

You may have trouble getting approved for a credit card unless you have a credit history. You may need a cosigner in order to get one.
You will just have to shop around. There are so many to choose from and it really depends on what you want. You also may be limited depending on your credit history.

I recommend a store credit card, because they are more flexible in choosing who they approve. They approve almost anyone. The only thing different is the credit limit and the interest rate. Be prepared for a 25 something percent which is high. The thing is, if you control yourself and don't buy things that you can't really pay, you won't get in trouble. Having this account open will help you establish your credit.
If you decide to go with a visa or MC from a Bank, let me tell you they are more picky and applying multiple times for credit is negative for your credit file. But in the good side you could get a better interest with some established credit. If its your first card, probably they'll give you 25% aprox. too.
I recommend the Walmart or Sam's Club Discover card. You can use it at Walmart, Sam's Club and anywhere Discover is accepted. The Sears card can be used at Kmart too, so it's a good choice too.
Good Luck and remember the key to good credit is don't buy what you can't really pay and what you do buy, pay on time.

When I turned 18 I got my card from my bank. I'd ben on there account, they gave me a basic card with a limit of $300, which could let me build up credit and not overspend and still be able to pay it off.
Plus, they had me as a client for a few years and knew they could trust me. I could physically talk to someone face to face and get all the details. Interest was good, not like the ones you get in the mail which offer 0% for x ammount of months, but after that if it's not paid off, all that acrued interest is tacked on and your rate skyrockets up to 22%.
So, go basic, talk with your bank and read between the lines.
