Has anyone ever signed up with one of those copmpanies that sends you a credit card and says you have a significant amount of credit, but you can only make catalog purchases with them? I wanted to know are they even worth it and what has been your experience with them?

Oh yes, some are good like Fingerhut and Blair but you are limited to only the things that they sell and their prices are not always the best.

But, on the other hand, they do report to the credit bureaus so it's a good way to build credit.

I haven't heard of this, but it sounds like a scam to me. I wouldn't do it.

But your limited to only that junk their selling.

Better to get a real CC, then you can shop anywhere,

Most of these are not good deals. As others have mentioned, you can only buy from their catalog. Most of the stuff is way overpriced. And, you often have to buy a certain amount and pay a down payment.

If you need to build credit, get a secured credit card that you can use anywhere. Try to find one that doesn't report as secured. Many of them will give you more credit than the amount you deposit, like $500 credit for $250.
