Whats the difference in paying with "debit" or "credit" when I use my debit card?

I have yet to figure out why the cahier always asks me this.

Am I getting charged for using one over the other?

I have Bank Atlantic if it helps.

one other feature..if you use debit..then you can get cash back...at no extra charge......if you get a cash advance on a credit..it will cost you extra.

Sometimes you will pay a fee for using a debit card. You also have to use your PIN when making a purchase. If you use it as a credit card, the merchant pays the fee and the sale is processed just like a credit card and the money comes out of your accoung 2 or 3 days later.

when you use as credit ( providing you have mastercard , visa logo) you dont get charged , but with some banks they charge a fee ( like 1.00 per transaction ) I know paypal does.
And plus you want to feel like a high roller and just say charge right?? If its credit you have to signthe receipt, I dont think you have to with debit. I know not much help right??

A debit card pays from money you have in the bank. A credit card pays from money you borrow at a high interest rate.

Another type of debit card is a thing you buy for about ten bucks and then you can prepay money on it. No credit check required. If you prepay $100, you can use it just like a credit card at the bar and impress your date.

credit - you have to sign to use your card, it takes longer to clear, with some banks like Citibank they offer rewards when you use credit instead of debit

debit - you have to know your pin number, it is debited right away, and you are usually allowed $5, $10, $20, $25 or even up to $35 cash back

those are the differences if you have an ATM debit card with Visa /MasterCard on there together. AKA: check cards.

Hope this helps!

Debt you would have to enter a pin number, and credit you have to sign the receipt. Also debt is normally instant, where credit can take a few days to come out of your account. Some people don't want to enter their pin number in public so they always want credit, some people don't care which is why you are asked all the time. You are not charged for either one, so pick the one you are most comfortable with.
