What company will give you a credit card when you have no credit?

I am 19 years old with little to no credit history. I was able to get a credit card through a department store but was declined for a credit card through the bank (where i work none the less!) and for another one through a store.

I am not desparate for money. My reasoning is to build my credit score. I would perfer not to take out a loan to build credit until i actually have something i need a loan for.

So... Does anyone know of a credit card company that will give someone like me credit card? I dont want to keep applying if I am just going to get rejected everytime. Thanks!!

Try Capital One. If not, there are many companies offering secured visa or mastercards. You pay $500 or $1000 and you get a limit for that amount. 12 months into using and paying it off and you should be able to get a bank card.

wachovia bank
household bank
first premier bank (beware they take out like 200 dollars from your credit limit)
also keep in mind, the more you apply for a credit card and get rejected it lowers your credit score even if you dont have a score it looks bad. same thing when u get credit checks like where your getting a car.

If you're in college, practically anyone will give you a credit card. Just look for credit card applications on the college campuses. If you can't find any at yours, go to the major university campuses. If you're not in college, take a couple classes at a local JC, then, get a CC.

good luck!

Got my first one through Capital One, however they are terrible to deal with so if you do get one just pay the balance off in full every month...also a good thing to keep in mind is to always try to leave at least 80% of your limit open in other words dont max out your cards, that can damage your score.

Capital one has several credit card offers that are designed for ppl like you who has no or limited credit. They are easy to get approved and has no annual fee.

Talk to the major companies about getting a secured card, where you deposit money against which you charge, thus building up a credit history.

Try Orchard. They are a good starter card and if you really don't have enough credit for a credit card they will probably offer you a secured or partially secured card and then you can turn that into a real credit card after a year or so.
