I want to but the regular xbox live(not the 360). Gamestop can sell me a 12 month subscription for $50 new which I really want. I know about the whole ether cable thing but a friend said I still have to put in a credit card number which I am a kid and my parents will not put in there credit card. So do I have to use a credit card to be able to play xbox live?

Most definitely not! You can just buy the card and enter the code. All there is to it! But I do think you need the hard drive though. Have fun online!
