You will be charged £1.50 every time you use your credit card (at cash machines or in shops) and a conversion rate will be built into the exchange rate when it is converted to Pounds Sterling. Although other banks (ie Nationwide) offer a card which does not charge you the £1.50, it is worth checking the exchange rate that they offer. I used my halifax card and found that the exchange rate was excellent so didn't mind paying the £1.50 charge. Other banks may use a poor exchange rate and this is where they get the money from you. Remember, if it is sounds too good to be true then it probably is. If you do use your Halifax card you will need to give them a ring before you go abroad to activate it. It is a new security procedure they have introduced to cut down on fraudulent transactions on accounts. Phone the number on the back of your card and tell them when you go, where you are going and what date you return, otherwise you won't be able to use the card and will need to phone up whilst you are in Poland, which could be expensive and inconvenient. Good luck.

They won't charge you anything ... they'll just pass your details over to the local mafia to empty your account ...

Halifax will hit you with a currency charge of about 3%. If you travel abroad a lot, it's worth getting a Nationwide card.
When you use your card, don't let it out of your sight. Most people in Poland are scrupulously honest, but if you come across a bad'un it's impossible to do anything about it afterwards.

The charges are ok when you buy things, the problem i had was when i wanted cash or tried to use a debit card.
Credit cards are ok but Debit cards are problem for some stores in that they just don't work over there, they also didn't work for me in most cash machines too.
Many cash machines were out of service and to find one after an hours search only to find it (yet again) wouldn't work with my debit card was very frustrating.
Make sure you take a credit card as well as your debit card particulally a Visa which is recognised everywhere.
The problem with mastercard is it's had a few name changes over the years (access, etc) and it confuses some stores.

Check your Halfix terms and conditions. I would assume for purchases, you will get charged about 2.5% currency conversion and will be built into the conversion. On top of this, if you withdraw cash, you will be charged a cash handling fee. These will be about the same fees as you would be pay in the UK. If you decide to withdraw cash, the ATM supplier may also charge you for using their ATM and they can charge whatever they want - Halifax have no control over this fee.

I don t think so. My dad is from Poland and was shopping in US his company didn t charge him anything. My bank also told me when I wanted to use my card in Poland that they will charge like 1-2$ per transaction. But you should check with your bank or Credit card company. They will tell you what they charge
