Joint accounts?credit cards?

Is it legal for one party to empty a joint checking account without the others parties permission? Also is it legal for one spouse to cancel credit cards without premission? My husband has left our house vandelized and almost vacant(my lab top was under the bed).I want to know what else he can do?As of now our joint checking is intact and so are our credit cards.

Yes he can. He can clean out the accounts and max out your credit cards.

i think that if you are the primary accout holder on credit cards that you can cancel them...but the balance has to be paid in full...and you can take what ever you want out of the bank account

If I were you, I'd be already at the bank taking as much $$$ as possible out of the joint acct and cancelling the credit cards if you have the power to do so..... you are just entitled to that if he half destroyed your house -- you need money to fix it right?? And as for the credit cards, try not to give him the chance to charge them and then leave you with a HUGE debt!!

It's legal, it's not correct but it's legal. On the credit cards if you are the primary holder he can't close them out but he can spend on them...
