No, it's loaned money. What happens is there's a limit to how much money you can spend on that card each month. By the end of the month they send you a bill in the mail and you are then expected to pay your balance on time.

I don't think you need to transfer any money to get a credit card, if that is your question.

The only reasons you need to transfer money to your credit card or to be more specific, the bank of the credit card is when you need to pay your bills.

As long as you are eligible or you have evidence to show that you are financially supported (i.e stable income), banks will never stop you from having credit cards. Banks are always more than happy to provide you as many credit cards as possible.

That's not really a credit card if you're paying into it...there's no good credit yet established. I don't know the terms under which they would extend this to you, but I'm assuming that once your build credit (don't go over what you put on it) then maybe they'll extend you credit. But read the fine print!

Hi Sarah,

I take it you don't have any pre-established credit? If it's your first time getting a credit card, chances are the company wants you to transfer funds so that if you don't pay your bill, they already have the payment there. Once you establish credit, you should be able to get that money back. If you have good credit, companys will send you out cards in the mail and you just register the card without transfering funds. You will be denied credit cards if it's your first time because you don't have any credit history. What you're talking about is the fastest way to establish credit by actually getting a card, but having to transfer funds to them to hold on to as a "back up" or a "just in case" fund incase you screw up!
Good luck!
