I have bad credit and can't get a house or an apartment?

I accepted a new job in a new state and I am living at an extended stay. It is costing me $800.00 a month to live like this plus the $180.00 a month I pay for Storage housing all my things. Does anyone have any suggestions?

When you go to apply at an apartment that says they run a credit check, let the manager know (before you pay that "fee") that your credit report is not all that great... let them know that you are working on fixing it... but that you realize that it might affect the decision. Ask the apartment manager if it is possible to pay an additional "security" deposit that will ensure that they will get their last month's rent if you should default. Many apartment managers are willing to work with you on this issue. Be honest, live your life with integrity... and you will pull yourself up out of this mess your past has created. You will move forward in a future that responds to your honesty and straightforwardness.

Call different apts, complexes and private owners.
Depending on why you have bad cedit some are understanding.
Believe it or not although they may charge for a credit check. they dont always.
I lived in an apartment that they said they did their own credit check. Well, others moved in after me(new neighbors) and after talking they said they had bad credit....
Perservere and you will find one that will rent to you, just be sure to keep up your end and keep the place in good order and pay rent on time.....never know when they could be only a credit reference but also a charactor reference.

Good LUck

You can save up and pay in advance, that is a lot money, or you can find someone to co-sign with you. Also, it depends on how long the bad credit is, as time passes the credit will improve. But tries serveral apartments, some have better tolerance than others.

Wow I wish I could find a place for 800 a month!

You should be able to get an apartment, but you will have to pay a larger deposit because of your credit. I would take a lesser apartment (one maybe not as nice as you would ordinairly) sign a 6 month lease, leave your stuff in storage and sleep on the floor or an inflatable bed and then once you have that 6 months of consistent payments you MAY be able to move to a nicer place.

The bottom line is that with bad credit, it is just going to cost you more in the beginning.

I'm sorry to hear this. I know how important it is to have your own place as I will be moving into my first place on the 1st of September. I was afraid myself at first because my credit is not all that great and I thought I wouldn't get the apartment I wanted. My advice to you is to keep trying and let the landlord know ahead of time about your situation and how you are working on it. I wish you the best of luck!
