Try consolidating your credit card debt. Some companies will give you a low monthly payment. Stay away from companies like Capital One. They just steal your money. Try to find a legit bank or consolidation company.

Pay off your bad debt and close out all but 1 of your credit cards. Student loans are okay to show a balance owed as long as the payments are being made on time. Paying off you debt and closing your credit cards should give your credit score a 40-50 point boost, but it won't work miracles. It will take 24 months for the late payments to be cleared off of your credit. If any of your debt has been sent to a collection agency, then you're looking at 7 years before the collection account is taken off of your credit

First thing you need to do is contact your debtors. This shows maturity and that you are willing to rectify your situation. By doing so, most of them will work with you as far as repayment options over time and you can ask them in time to remove you from a non-payment listing. Work a second job if possible or look for a higher paying job. Be responsible and take care of your debts. You may ask your parents for a loan to pay off all your debts which will help if they are willing. The interest would probably be lower and you will know where you stand. Initiate a conversation that is informative by describing how and when you will pay them back as well as your intentions. Do not take this for granted though.

I second the previous responders, and want to add this: change your spending habits. Buying things when you don't have the money is a false pleasure, and you pay for it many times over later. Learn to live within your means, and find your pride in places besides conspicuous consumption.

This takes discipline and patience, but you will feel better about yourself each time you take a step towards financial independence. Remember: when you borrow money, you are only making the banks and credit card companies richer.
