how do you get a student loan if you have bad credit?

this is nuts I have made a mistake in the past but damn I didnt realize credit was that much of a big deal (I was 19) now I am 21 and im realizing how important it is to have good credit because you pretty much cant do anything without it. I am trying to better myself by going to school (i have no parents who will pay my tuition, or any other sources) and the state of texas says that if i am under24 i have to go under my moms income which is stupid because i havnt lived with her for the past 2 years. they said in order for me to qualify for financial aid i must be married or have a kid. lol give me a break the law is sick and twisted here....sooo back to the question..how in the world do i get a student loan? :[

I had the same problem. It is a stupid law. The way I went around it is I declared by boyfriend as my dependent and only that way I could get independent status. You can do that through your school and FAFSA if you have someone willing to be your dependent. Another option is to get a private loan with co-signer (like your mom). Yeah student loan system sure screws you in this country. Good Luck
